ACT Test with Extended Time: How Much Longer is It?

Hey folks, I have a bit of a specific question. If you qualify for extended time on the ACT, how much extra time do you get? Does it depend on the section or is it a flat increase across the board?

The ACT does offer an extended time accommodation for students with diagnosed disabilities that impact their testing performance. Under normal conditions, the ACT allocates 45 minutes to English, 60 minutes to Mathematics, 35 minutes to Reading, and 35 minutes to Science.

If you qualify for extended time, each portion of the test will be given 50% more time. This translates to approximately 70 minutes for the English section, 90 minutes for the Mathematics section, 55 minutes for the Reading section, and 55 minutes for the Science section. The total time for the test, excluding breaks, would be about 4 hours and 30 minutes, rather than the standard 2 hours and 55 minutes.

Keep in mind, you will have to apply for this accommodation ahead of time and you'll need to provide appropriate documentation to demonstrate your need for extra time. The ACT takes approximately 6 weeks to review these requests, so you'll want to submit your accommodation request well in advance of your desired test date.

Remember, the extended time accommodation is offered with the intention of providing equal access to the test, not to give an advantage. It's important to seek out this accommodation only if you have a documented need.
